January 13-17th

I write this with confidence that the weather will hold out for us this week, and we will be in school for our first full week after winter break! I am sooooo ready to get in the swing of things! Although I love to be home with my family, I did miss my "kids" at school. It was good to see their faces and hear about how they spent their break!

This week in language arts we will be continuing our daily grammar review. Monday-Thursday we will work on different skills such as: prefixes, suffixes, roots, analogies, possessive nouns, plurals, prepositions, context clues, simile and metaphors, punctuation, capitalization, homophones, and plural nouns. On Friday we will have a quick quiz over some of the skills covered.

We have just finished our unit over similes and metaphors and are moving into idioms. We will do activities with common idioms. We will also by studying story elements; focusing on setting and plot. We will read short stories and practice reading skills that we are learning.

January monthly minutes and AR book project were sent home with students on Friday. Please sign the AR book project so I know that you have seen the required expectations. The AR book project will be due by January 31st. However, students may take their AR test as soon as they complete their book.

In science we are finishing our unit over classification. We will review animal behaviors and adaptations and there will be a quiz on Friday. Next week we will be taking a closer look at ecosystems and ecosystem change.

Enjoy the week!!!
