Lyme Village Field Trip - Frankie

On Friday,September 6th, 2013, the whole fourth grade traveled to Lyme Village to learn some history about Lyme Village and it's past. It is located in Bellevue, Ohio. When we were there, we learned a lot of hair-raising facts about the pioneer days.
My favorite station was the blacksmith. I like the blacksmith because he makes tools for builders and I am a builder. The second reason I like blacksmiths is because I like to work and a blacksmith has to work to make tools. You have to hit the nail at the right level and hit it fast with the hammer or else it will get too cool.
I learned many interesting fun-facts about Historic Lyme Village. One of my fun-facts is a square nail holds better in a round hole. The reason why it works better is when you try to twist it out it won't work because of how it's shaped. My second interesting fact is that back in the pioneer times the women boiled potatoes and then they would soak their clothes in the potato water because it had starch in it. Did you know that before the pioneer times, the blacksmiths had to use a rock to weld? Can you imagine how hard that would be? I also learned that there was a pioneer who shot a bear in front of the mansion. The bear was a couple of feet in front of him!

In conclusion, our trip to Lyme Village was awesome! We learned so many fun-facts abut Lyme Village's past and pioneers. I had an extraordinary time at Lyme Village.
